Course Outline:
HLTFA311A is a competency from the health training package and this unit has now superseded by HLTFA301C.
On completion of HLTFA311A Apply First Aid:
the student will be assessed by demonstrating competency for skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. These skills will be applied in a range of situations including community and workplace settings. The training of this qualification is consistent with any specific workplace and or relevant legislative requirements in relation to first aid, including State/Territory requirements for currency. Application of these skills and knowledge should be contextualised as required to address specific industry, enterprise or workplace requirements and to address specific risks and hazards and associated injuries.

| • Environmental impact such as hypothermia, hyperthermia, dehydration, heat stroke |

| • Medical conditions - cardiac conditions, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma and other respiratory conditions |
| • Poisoning and toxic substance (including chemical contamination) |

NB: To maintain currency participants will be required to refresh their competencies in accordance with the Workplace Health & Safety Advisory Standard for First-aid in the relevant state or territory. In Queensland this is required every three years. The Australian Resuscitation Council requires competencies for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation to be reviewed on an annual basis.
